Hey guys so lately my sister has been wanting a new light laptop that she can do her collage courses. Her current one is satisfying her but it is starting to have heating issues so it is on its way out. she would just go get it fixed but it is quite old (2008) and it is starting to lag behind even average computers so a new one is necessary. Now she has a budget of $1000. She wants a light and fairly powerful computer for using soft wares like Office and Word. she will be doing all her work on it so it must be reliable and compact for travel. Any guidance to what brand, make, or model would be greatly appreciated. Note this is not a computer intensive class the laptops main purpose is to use Microsoft based soft wares and very little else.

I would recommend a Chromebook and a Windows install disc, about 300-400$.

Women like aesthetics. Its reliable and compact for travel. Pretty sure women would be more satisfied with Mac than a gaming notebook.

It might be pretty and light, but 1K for a 128/256 GB of SSD and 4-8 GB of RAM? I'd expect more.

Yes :3 Women like macs.
Don't flame me, I find it pretty unreasonable too, but this mac is all she needs. They don't want some bulky black laptop.

Ever think of an ultrabook?

A low-end ultrabook costs about 500-700$:D and it has WAY better specs than the Macbook Air. Personally, I deeply dislike Apple computers, to put it politely:) but for some reason, I love their mobile devices (iPad, iPhone, etc). It's probably the Mac OS which is putting me off:)
