when i delete an email in outlook express it does not go to trash. i do not know where it goes but i deleted an email and then

my outlook express mail program has now began to just delete my trash folder . when i delete a message it is gone. it seems it skips the trash folder and disappears. how can i get outlook to put my deleted mail in my trash folder and allow me to empty it when i want to? any help would be appreciated. i deleted something in error and that is how i found out that my trash folder was completely empty.

In the Tools>Options>Maintenance tab, there's a box marked "Empty messages form the Deleted Items folder on exit."

Remove the tick then click Apply and OK your way out. That should stop it but that tick didn't put itself in there.
