I am finally breaking down and upgrading to a new version of Microsoft office. The problem is I cant decide whether I should go with Office 2010, 2013, or 2016. At first I was planning on getting the cheapest but 2010, 2013, and 2016 are about the same price, all hovering around $115.

If they're that close in price just get 2016. It will have more features and better doc security. Definitely don't get 2010 that one is end of life and doesn't seem to play nice with Windows 10 in my experience.
I don't believe they ever take features away, only add to them.
Office 2016 is supposedly "optimized for Windows 10" http://www.sherweb.com/blog/office-2016-vs-2013/
Realistically, for approx the same price, I don't see why you wouldn't just opt for Office 2016.

I'm not a frequent Office user outside of work, with basic Exel & Word - so I don't know the fulls ins & outs. I use OpenOffice on the rare occasion I need to use an equivelant at home

Awesome thanks guys. I was leaning towards 2016 but, as with everything for windows, you gotta be careful because the newest version isn't always the best lol. I wanted to be sure that there weren't any serious issues with 2016 before I spend a bunch of money on it.

For any students out there asking the same question, a classmate of mine gave me a link to a site for a free edition of 365. If you go here, http://slickdeals.net/f/7217080-office-365-for-students-and-teachers-free-select-edu-emails?utm_source=android_app& , choose your university, and enter your school email address, you will be able to get office 365 for free. I am not sure how long it will last but, for the time being you can put off having to purchase MS office while going to school.
