Why does microphone come on at startup with speaker volume high

All of a sudden my microphone comes on at startup with speaker volumes loud. Does newly installed Cortana cause this? How do I fix this?

It shouldn't however you should make sure you're on the latest audio drivers. Uninstall and reinstall the latest found off your manufacturer's support site. On another note, since you're on Windows 10, make sure you're on the latest BIOS update for your platform.

As a last point, might want to list your full system's specs and your audio equipment and how they're connected to your system.
