When all of my games or conversations are quiet or I am the only one talking, my microphone is clear and pristine. If another sound plays or someone else begins talking, my mic begins to cut out. it is plugged in by a standard 3.55 mm jack for audio and microphone.

Solution
Try this...
  1. Go into "Control Panel" and then "Sound".
  2. Click on the "Recording" tab.
  3. Right click on the empty background of the window and make sure both "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" are checked.
  4. Now double click on your microphone/device and click on the "Advanced tab"
  5. In here you want to uncheck both boxes under "Exclusive Mode".
Save your changes, click "Apply" and then "OK" and it should not do this anymore.

Should this not resolve it, then it may not be computer settings but the headset itself.
