why does my new Kindle need wifi?

I have had a Kindle Keyboard since Day 1. Since those are no longer offered, I bought the standard Kindle rather than an iPad because I wanted the access to the Kindle store and my archives that I can get when I can't get wifi. But my new Kindle doesn't offer that! What happened? I am considering sending it back and buying an iPad, which at least offers me more functionality!

Kindle keyboard had both Wifi and 3G for data. It sounds like you needed the newer 4g version but got the one tat was wifi only instead.

The standard Kindle only does WiFi (I have one). One that can talk to 3g/4g costs more.
