Why is my audio on my laptop echoing and lagging on music?

my audio on my computer is acting weird. It's lagging sounds when I listen to mp3's and when I am on youtube the sound sounds like it is lagging and there is crackling noises as well....

please someone help me I have a acer aspirer laptop with windows xp it just started to do this a week ago apparently and it is starting to get annoying

crackling sounds like you are sending bad data to the digital to analog convertor.
or maybe the digital to analog convertor is starting to die.

i dont know what you are trying to say when you say 'lagging'
i am guessing that you are talking about pauses.
that may be because of a failing soundcard.. or an improper setting in the program playing the audio.
