Will a 4k blu ray player upscale dvds on a 2k monitor

I have a 2k monitor and was wondering if the blu player will still upscale and try and get rid of artifacts.

The blu ray player is: Samsung UBDM9500

in the features it does say it offers,
UHD Up-Scale, Video Up-Scale (DVD)

I did contact samsung live chat, but it was not helpful.

I would assume that to enable upscaling if it doesn't do it automatically, would be in its setup options.

So even if the monitor is not 4k, the upscaling should still work?

If you play a 4k bluray disc the player will downscale the resolution to fit the monitor.
If you play a 2k bluray disc the player will do nothing.
If you play a DVD the player will upscale it to 2k.
The monitor has to be HDCP compliant to get any picture at all.
