Solved! Can you play a 4K Blu-ray on a normal Blu-ray player?

I just want to know if I insert a 4K Blu-ray movie into a normal Blu-ray player, will it play? I know it won't be in 4K, but will it at least still work? Specifically trying to use a PS3 (because of the built-in Blu-ray player) to play a 4K Blu-ray movie.

A UHD disc needs a different laser to read it, this is why the PlayStation will never support it as it does not have the needed hardware.

Sony stated 2 years ago they will never support 4k playback.

Does a 4K disc contains both 4K video track as well as a 1080 video track? I think that's the better question.

Say I don't have a 4K player at the moment, but plan to upgrade mid-2019, but I like to enjoy the movie NOW even on 1080, so am stuck buying one version each? or are u saying 4K vendors bundle the 1080 version disc free?

Yes , when you buy most 4k movies at retail , you usually get a 4k disc and a blu-ray disc and usually a link to a digital copy. It states it right on the top of the retail movie package.
