Will my pictures be saved on Sd card after a transfer on my Sony m4 phone as I need to free up space on the phone memory. Ta

Take no chances - back them up on to a PC before you do anything else. Have you installed and mounted the SD Card yet? The photos will only be saved on the new card if you physically copy them from one folder to another.
