Will my system handle the Vive pro or go with og Vive?

I’m currently running an i5 6600k (not oc), gtx 1080 and 16gb of ram.

After playing around on my psvr and trying out the Vive a couple of times, I’ve decided to go for a pc vr setup. With the money I’ve earmarked, I can either get the Vive pro, or I can go for the og Vive and upgrade either my cpu/mobo or my gpu. I like the advantages the pro has over the original, and outside of vr I don’t go above 1080p for gaming and my games all run well on high or ultra settings.

I was reading that Htc lists the 1070 as their “recommended” gpu, but I’m hoping to get some real world insight on this one. Would I be able to run games on the pro with the pc I have, ideally then upgrading both the cpu and gpu within the next 6-12 months, or would I be better off getting the regular Vive and, if the latter, would I get a bigger benefit upgrading my gpu or cpu?

So you don’t have to buy a headset.
