Hey guys,

I'm about to buy myself my first ASUS notebook, but I'm fairly clueless when it comes to specs and what's good or bad, so I decided to consult the experts. I would however like to clarify that I am aware of the fact that this laptop isn't the most spectacular piece of hardware, I'm just in need of a fairly average laptop for college and perhaps a couple of video games in my spare time.

The laptop in question is the ASUS R704VC-TY137H model. Its' price currently stands at €659,-.

The specs include;

- 17,3'' HD Screen, 1600 x 900
- Intel Core i5 3230M, 2.6GHz CPU, 2 cores
- 6GB RAM, DDR3 (Max is 8GB, would adding 2GB make a lot of difference?)
- GeForce GT 720M 2GB videocard
- 500GB 5400rpm hard drive, eSATA Interface
- 2x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0, D-Sub (VGA), Wireless Display (WiDi), HDMI
- 6 cell battery capacity
- IceCool Technology, Smart Gesture touchpad, Windows 8.1 64bits

My apologies for possibly including useless information, I just want to be sure you guys know everything there is to know.

Now my question is, will this laptop be able to run software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects etc.? And how, if at all, will it perform on games like Hearthstone, Cube World, Space Bound, World of Warcraft and possibly Guild Wars 2?

My amazing gratitude goes out to anyone who might be able to help me out.

Best regards and thank you for reading.

The GT720M Graphics card is quite weak and will not be able to handle gaming properly. You should aim for at least GT740M.

Some of the suggestions:

Asus N56VB

Acer Aspire V5-573G

Toshiba Satellite S70-A-11H

I prefer going for the Toshiba, because it offers good balanced CPU & GPU.

Best vinaykumar5320,

Thank you for your informative response, however unfortunately all three of those laptops are out of my price range.. perhaps I should have clarified that I mainly aim to play games on low - medium quality, I don't expect nor need to play everything on good settings.

Do you figure the graphics card is atleast decent enough to handle some of the older games on low - medium settings?
If not, then I'm just out of luck :p

Thanks.

vinaykumar5320,

How about this one? I might be able to afford this but definitely not more..

http://www.bol.com/nl/p/lenovo-z500touch-00280-laptop-touch/9200000021960459/

It has a GT 740M and 2 more GB of RAM. Would this perform better?

Hey guys, I decided with the Toshiba Sattelite L70-A-11F, 17,3'' Notebook w/ an i5-3230M CPU, 750GB HDD, 4GB RAM and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M 2 GB for €699,-

Thank you for your help :)
