WLAN on 5500?

Aloha to you,

Forgive my ignorance. I was under the impression that the wireless control
WLAN feature was to connect to the internet, for example, without being
tethered to a pass through (a la Active Sync).

I signed up for Pocket MSN with the hope that I would be able to surf the
web and get my email while I am on the road. I am having a dickens of a
time doing that.

What I am doing, basically is turning on WLAN, going to Programs, Pocket
MSN. This brings me to the Pocket MSN homepage. But when I enter a web
address in the address bar, I get the following message:

Unable to connect: You have no modem entries created, and no network care
present.

Uh, help, please?????

TIA
Marvin

Are you in range of some hotspot? Or other Access Point?

LOL.... told you that I was ignorant....

How do I find out where the hot spots are, and on another note, if I may be
so bold, is there a reason why my orange light (the one on the upper left
hand corner of the front of the 5500) does not go on when WLAN is supposedly
"on"?

I can't surf the net or whatever in any place???? I have to be in a
particular location to do so? What did I pay for pocket MSN for? Maybe I
am thinking that it is something more than what it is????

TIA,
Marvin

You might consider looking at your Users Guide for some of this information. The guide is on your
companion CD or you can download a copy from...

http://tinyurl.com/2waed

The WiFi part starts on Page 9-1 in the manual.

Along those lines, look at this page for help setting up your devices Connection Manager
correctly...

It does not start at all? Then pull the battery from your PDA and put it
back in after a few seconds.

LOL :D
Ohhh man :)
You really do not know much about this :)

WLAN is Wireless Local Area Network. This is not GSM or CDMA or whatever
cellular network you have where you live. To be able to connect to WLAN
access point you have to be in close range of one - about 100 - 150m.
Hotspots are public access points located in popular spots in many
countries - like airports, restaurants, etc.

Try to find a hotspot near you:

Pocket MSN is just an internet service, but first you must have internet
access.
