WLM (MSN) emoticons aren't working

im using windows 7, and lately i have noticed that the emoticons r jsut showing up as text and not a smiley, could it be because of msn plus? any one have ideas?

List of things you can do:

-restore system to a date when MSN worked fine

-check if all options are enabled correctly
open MSN
tools
options
messages
enable 'show emoticons'
'show custom emoticons'
apply/ok

-repair MSN
close MSN
than go to
start
control panel
add&remove programs
windows live essentials
click on 'remove'
and then on 'repair'
wait til the wizard finishes
sign in again
