576p using an HDMI cable?

Hello Everybody:

I have a full HD (1080) TV and DVD set. I bought an HDMI cable from Ebay to connect between the two, and the image is not rich as you would expect from a HDMI display. Additionally, there is a small caption of 576p when switching to the DVD's HDMI slot.

* The DVD set's manufacturer is Pure Acoustic.

Important: I have a Full HD DVR, provided to me by the satellite company. When switching to this DVR's HDMI slot, the caption (mentioned above) is of a 1080p and the image is truly beautiful.

Is the cable defective? Is it a problem with the settings? Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

Your DVD player is not upconverting your 480p DVDs to 1080p but to 576p. Check the setup menu of the DVD to see if it can be adjusted. If it cannot then that is the highest it will do. You could try component video and see if it is better. Otherwise you will need a better DVD or Bluray player.

I tried it with both kind of qualities, the regular (480) and the HD one (720-1080). Both look the same...

At the DVD box it's written in big "1080p". I'll check the settings, and keep you posted.
