Can someone tell me, please, if video editing is more CPU dependent or it is more GPU dependent? I mean all else equal what is the rough percentage distribution of workload between GPU/encoder chip and CPU?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure more or less everything with video editing uses the CPU mostly, especially encoding/decoding. I've used a Celeron 366 with a GeForce 2 Ti, and a PIII 500 with crappy 4MB on-board Intel graphics, and the PIII was better in pretty much every way when editing/rendering/encoding. Only problem is it struggles moreso playing high resolution (e.g. DVD 720x576) video moreso than the PC with the GF2, I think.
