acer aspire 8920g screen white !!1

hi, my acer aspire 8920g starts up fine but has a white screen from initial power on (im guessing this is the backlight) , it works fine on my tv using hdmi tho, any ideas please would be much appreciated ?

iv just brought a new inverter on the cheap....................hoping this might solve the issue rather than forking out £50+ for a new lcd
