Hi, I have an Apple headphone with 3.5 mm jack. I want to use it as both headphone and mic on my PC. I've bought a splitter cable for mic and headphone but the mic doesn't work.
-Splitter works fine when tested with different headphone on same pc.
-Apple headphones mic works fine when I use it on my phone or macbook.
-I tried plugging Apple headphone directly to mic input and it doesn't work that way either (tried both front and back panel).
-When i use splitter on pc the mic looks like it doesn't get any audio but when I enable listening to mic, it keeps making a constant beeping sound.
Any ideas on how to fix or what's causing the problem?

Thank you very much! Guess I'll have to just buy new headphones.

I would not use earbuds with the mic on those for any sort of computer use, the quality of audio is pretty bad.
Do you really want a mic, for gaming, skype or something? You can get a nice headset for 50-100, and a very good set of earbuds for just listening for 50 or less.

Tin T2, best under $150 https://www.amazon.com/TIN-T2-Dynam...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

Tin T2 you really need to use the foam pads or the bass is a bit too low. With the rubber tips I found it about 10% under the bass I really wanted, it was just a bit out of reach. With foam tips the bass went up to good levels, very clear, although not boomy like the Beats and much clearer and even than Bose also.

For earbuds with a mic for about 50, the Linsoul KZ ZS10 Pro are also an option, although the Tin T2 have a more flat response https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QKT3BKR?aaxitk=CJGdy1GQqmcJkY5ZlxFSqQ&pd_rd_i=B07QKYTGH9&pf_rd_p=9420597b-7dad-4cbd-a28d-7d676ac67378&hsa_cr_id=4043095770501&sb-ci-n=productDescription&sb-ci-v=KZ+ZS10+Pro,+Linsoul+4BA+1DD+5+Driver+in-Ear+HiFi+Metal+Earphones+with+Stainless+Steel+Faceplate,+2+Pin+Detachable+Cable+(Without+Mic,+Black)&sb-ci-a=B07QKYTGH9&th=1

For headset with mic, you need to up to about $100 to get good audio https://www.amazon.com/Turtle-Beach...8cbc723161c2341d204deb81384b98&language=en_US or https://www.amazon.com/HyperX-Cloud-Alpha-Gaming-Headset/dp/B074NBSF9N/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QPHLUJ1I198L&keywords=cloud+alpha&qid=1567106439&s=gateway&sprefix=cloud+al,aps,131&sr=8-1

These Cooler Masters are also good, but they sold out fast, because they got such good reviews and were cheap https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Swiveled-Neodymium-Omni-Directional/dp/B07JH3LSHN

There is a solution, You need a adapter that crosses ground and mic pins, just google for CTIA-OMTP
