Asus 5515 Powers on but black screen and does not boot any HD

Hopefully I'm describing this well:
I just repaired the DC-in on my wife's laptop the other day and everything worked perfectly for 3 days. She left it on, on the counter one night and in the morning it was not working as I'm now describing.

WHAT WORKS: It is getting power: the power button lights up, and the fan spins, the cd-rom spun with a disc in it as well.

WHAT DOES NOT WORK: However, the screen is black - tried plugging into TV via HDMI.... nothing.

Also, the hard drive does not sound like it's spinning. Tried another drive and it didn't work either. With the screen not coming on, I also don't get any message like "insert hard drive".

I took the whole thing apart again and don't see anything wrong. Any ideas??????

can you access the CMOS setup?

No CMOS... I'm not positive that I am using the correct input to try to get to the CMOS but I don't see anything happen on the screen.

When you say fixed the dc, what exactly do you mean?

the DC-in was loose and wiggled to the point of the cord breaking inside of the computer. I just replaced that little port/cable.

By the way, typo in my original description this is an Acer Aspire 5551

Check that the ram is properly inserted into the motherboard, if that's all fine I'd look at the cmos battery, it's unlikely but maybe it's gone flat. Did you take esd precautions when opening the computer?

... didn't really take ESD precautions .... but it worked perfectly for 3 days so I figured I was out of the woods there.

Popped the ram out and back in. Tried booting while it was out and didn't get the mobo "beep" that should happen I think.

Well, the fact that the computer was running overnight and then it was off suggests a component has failed. Because the m/board is not even getting to load the bios into memory, that would suggest it is an important component ie ram, cpu, or the m/board itself. I have never had any issues with esd but have read that it is very fickle and can make the computer act very strangely, but i dont think it is that.

Ive just checked about the cmos battery but it is soldered to the m/board so i dont think it should be changed.

that quite a bit of dissasembly is necessary to change the dc input so there are plenty of things that could go wrong there.

I think the long and the short of it is that unless you can find a loose component or something out of place causing a short on the m/board then you are down to swapping out cpu or ram. If you dont find yr answer there then something must have gone wrong with the m/board itself. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it could just as easily be something simple.
