Okay, so I was wondering has anyone tried to do this? I have an ASUS vivobook S550CA with intel HD 4000. Now I've seen other vivobooks part of the same S550CA series and it has an nvidia gtx 635m GPU in it. does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade along with if it's possible to upgrade my CPU as well? I've seen the other models with better CPU's as well. I'd really appreciate the help.

Solution
Possible, but MXM form factor GPUs are generally reserved for higher end laptops. You should research around to find out if that laptop has MXM slot.
If other Vivobooks have the GT 635m, then it is technically possible to do so, but the graphics chip is soldered into the motherboard. Your only chance is probably finding a motherboard for the Vivobook which already has the GT 635m soldered in.

You must make sure the motherboard is compatible with your laptop chassis though because the size / layout of motherboards are not standard.

but if it was a dedicated graphics card couldn't it be possible that the vivobooks motherboard has the slot for the gtx 635m ?

Hi all,

I have an ASUS S550CM-CJ087H with next specs (extracted from AIDA 64 Extreme):

- Motherboard Chipset: Intel Panther Point HM76, Intel Ivy Bridge
- CPU: Mobile DualCore Intel Core i7-3517U, 2766 MHz (28 x 99)
- RAM (upgraded from 4GB to 16GB): 16GB (2 x 8GB DIMM1 Transcend JM1600KSH-16GK DDR3-1600 DDR3 SDRAM (11-11-11-28 @ 800 MHz))
- Integrated Graphics Video Adapter 1 (CPU): Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (2112 MB)
- Integrated Graphics Video Adapter 2 (GPU): NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M (2 GB)
- Touchscreen Monitor: Samsung 156AT20-P01 [15.6" LCD]
- Hard Drive 1: Disk Drive Hitachi HTS545050A7E380 (500 GB, 5400 RPM, SATA-II)
- Hard Drive 2: Disk Drive SanDisk SSD U100 24GB (24 GB, SATA-III)
- Optical Drive: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8C2 S (DVD+R9:6x, DVD-R9:6x, DVD+RW:8x/8x, DVD-RW:8x/6x, DVD-RAM:5x, DVD-ROM:8x, CD:24x/16x/24x DVD+RW/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM)
- Wireless Network Adapter (upgraded, Wifi ac + Bluetooth 4.0): Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260
- USB ports: 2 x USB 2.0 (Intel Panther Point PCH - USB 2.0 EHCI Controller) + 1 x USB 3.0 (Intel Panther Point PCH - USB 3.0 xHCI Controller)

Well, as the user who is asking about the GPU upgrade in this post, Brian Schneide, I am also wondering if I could upgrade my GPU to a GTX Mobile series gpu. I know about solutions like using the pci-e slot where my wifi card is located right now to use an external desktop GPU like this guy did (using a PE4L adapter http://www.bplus.com.tw/Adapter/PE4L%20V2.1.html):

But the thing is I don't want to remove my wifi card to put it if there is another solution. I mean, I was wondering if the GTX mobile gpu upgrade is possible (I have no idea if the GeForce GT 635M is soldered or not and if it uses a MXM slot or not) or if is there another external GPU upgrade solution using the PE4L adapter. Is there someone with an answer or who knows where could we find an answer? I can post more specs and put pictures of my mother board if it is necessary.

I know it maybe sounds obsessed but I love this laptop, I just want to make some upgrades. Now I know I could upgrade the msata ssd HDD and the other HDD to an ssd one too. Also I know I could upgrade the CPU, and I am wondering if I could upgrade the USB 2.0 ports to 3.0 and the 15.6'' 720p touchscreen to an 15.6'' 1080p touchscreen.

Thanks in advance.
