ASUS U31S Laptop Charger Doesn't Work -----> Green Light is on when plugged into wall, but turns off when plugged into laptop

Hello,

Just recently, my charger stopped working for my ASUS U31S laptop. When I plug the charger into the wall, the green light turns on, but as soon as I plug it into my laptop, it turns off and my laptop won't charge. Nothing happened to suggest this would occur. Does anyone know how to fix it?

I suspect a short in the system somewhere. The most likely candidate for that would be the power jack (the point where the adapter plugs into the laptop). Power jack problems are common enough that companies specialize in that repair. I could find no "How-to" type videos on YouTube for your model. In some cases the power jack is a modular type which is rather easy to switch out, in others it is soldered to the motherboard (most common method) and at least decent soldering skills are needed to do the replacement.
That is not to say it is the only possibility, there are many but that is the most common and where I would personally start

Thanks. I think I'll go get Best Buy or someone to check it. I had a feeling it had to do with the jack or the connector in the computer since both the AC adaptor and the battery work perfectly fine separately. Hopefully it's a simple and cheap fix, because I am not planning on getting a new laptop until next Christmas.

If there is an independent shop that services laptops in your area I'll suggest that route, the BBGS are extremely limited in what they can do/look at

The only other place I can think of is Canada Computers or Future Shop, but I'm not sure if Future Shop is any better than Best Buy and I don't know if Canada Computers even does computer repairs (but that is where I got my laptop from). Is it possible to do anything to try to fix it at home, or is it not that easy?

If a disassembly guide can be found for your model, it could be fairly easy but all laptops are not designed alike and some are a PITA while others are "a dream" to work in. I did one a few months ago that kept a 3 screw theme, 3 screws for the back panel, three holding the HDD, three holding the keyboard, three... and the holes even said what size screw, that one was super easy IMO.
I'd think a company like http/www.laptopspecialist.ca/ could get you going but you may need to ship your laptop there. If nothing else, they should give you an idea of the cost of repair. I'm under the impression that your power jack is not a modular affair (searches show only the jack itself), if you're confident in your desoldering/soldering skills the hardest part is disassembly and reassembly.
