hELLO ALL YOU LASERPHILES !!!! ITS BEEN A LOOOONG TIME SINCE IVE BEEN
IN HERE.PRETTY MUCH SINCE THE ADVENT OF THE DVD. The reason Im here
now is to get some feedback on doing an auction in here instead of
EBAY. I dont know how many can remember how we did auctions before
Ebay, but I had 5 or 6 large auctions in here which always did well
for me and my one other friend who collected.
sO THE QUESTION IS: WOULD YOU ALL LIKE TO SEE ANOTHER AUCTION IN
HERE, OR WOULD YOU RATHER TAKE YOUR CHANCES AGAINST THE MULTITUDES IN
EBAY?

Between the two of us, we have nearly 800 discs, most of which were
our personal favorites we kept out of the 3000 or so he and I
purchased over the years.(the ones we didnt auction). A lot of these
have never been watched, some have slight scratches, a few of teh MCA
Discovision have some rot. I am in the process of visually inspecting
MOST discs and al discs will again be inspected before they are
shipped.Obviously we dont want to misrepresnt their condion because
that becomes a pain in the ass for all involved. To be honest, I
probably will not PREVIEW ALL DISCS NOW, as I would become very weary
and need some rest and medication which would only delay the
expedition of the auction. As I said all discs will be visually
examined and if for any reason I have a question about the discs
performance, I will then place it in one of my two remaining LD
Players and check it out for you before it is shipped. Our reason for
doing this is simply, we feel a greqat number of these discs could be
desireable to Laserphiles and we dont want to see them get lost in the
thousands of discs on Ebay. Photos are availavble on request for any
disc and the photos will be of that specific disc's condition as well
as it's jacket, not a generic photo d/l from amazon. My online
accountat Ebay is SIRRUS.(If you need some reference of my
credibility) . My name is Michael and I live in Largo, Fla. Some of
you old timers may remember me.
95% of these discs were purchased new and in most instances viewed
no more than twice. Please let us know how you fell about this
venture. Either post a reply in here, or email me at
:cjameso1@tampabay.rr.com

Today is 8/4/2004. Please respond by 8/9/2004 if response is
positive.Negative response is not needed. Thanks, Michael

Personally, I'm not too interested in auctions outside of eBay (i.e.,
conducted within a newsgroup). In the old days you refer to, people used
to post set sale lists here a lot more frequently than conducting
auctions, and I bought many discs off people that frequented the
newsgroup before eBay took over what remained of the market for used
LDs. One of the better things about buying discs off the newsgroup,
IMHO, was that most people selling LDs knew how to pack them properly to
avoid shipping damage, something that seems to be the exception rather
than the rule with eBay sellers.

If you're not comfortable with a set sale, post them at eBay. I wouldn't
worry about them getting "lost among the thousands of discs there" - if
you have some genuinely rare or collectible titles, potential buyers
will find them there, either through regular scanning of the listings or
through one of the various automated search utilities. And there are
almost certainly far more people still actively collecting LDs that are
monitoring eBay listings than there are reading this newsgroup.

Actually , I do have two. One is an older pioneer 2090, auto Flip
w/digi audio out& S-video. It makes some noise(rumbling, Like motor
bearings). Ive been using that one waiting for it to die, but its been
making that same noise now for about 8 years. It comes and goes. I
also have a rebuilt by the factory, Pioneer CLD-606.This machine is
mint .Ive used it less than 20 hours, saving it for when my other one
breaks. There's not a marke on it or the remote. It has the box they
returned it to me in, I think the manual is in the box as well.I know
its around somewhere. This machine was factory built with AC-3
decoding. You'll not find a nicer one anywhere. Once all my discs are
gone, I will consider selling the 606 and throwing in the 2090 for
parts, although if I end up with a few discs that are not available on
DVD, I'll probably keep the 2090. So, yes I have a machine for sale,
but at this moment in time,I havent got a clue.Im going to start
listing the Laserdiscs on ebay this week, the week beginning
8/16/2004.The first ones should be posting around the 19th or so.

Thanks, Michael
