Best OS for my netbook?

I now got a Windows 7 Starter Edition on my netbook.
the problem here is, I always get problems and freeze on my netbook.
My netbook is Lenovo S10-3.
What do you guys recommend? I really like a nice OS that is really easy to use for my friends, brothers and sisters, also lightweight, I like an OS that doesn't make me want to throw my netbook from the cause of freeze and lags.

Better describe the problems and freezes in more detail. Win7 doesn't freeze without reason and a different OS will not fix the problems.

Well, it started on a stuck startup repair, and because of that, I formatted my netbook.
the startup repair problem was fixed, but then, when I was installing programs and drivers. it froze on when I was installing chrome, I tried to do a CTRL+ALT+DELETE to open my task manager, I opened up my task manager, and tried to force close chrome, task manager froze, mouse cursor can still be moved, but I cannot do anything but to hard reset, now, I got stuck again on the startup repair.

Well, that sounds like a problem with the harddrive or the memory or something like that. The first step is to run a checkdisk on the harddrive I think.
