Broken laptop screen

So i have a hp655 laptop with a broken screen and need to connect to external monitor but it is in repair mode or something close to it. What can i do?

That error message should appear on the external disk automatically when you plug it in unless it needs to have a Function key tapped to switch over. That probably won't work while the system is failing to start.

It sounds like the damage that broke the screen may have upset the hard drive. Power off and examine the drive. It may just need reseating in its connection.
