BSOD when trying to update iPod

So recently every time i try to plug in my ipod video(80gig) i get a BSOD message. The numbers at the bottom are:
0x00000023 (0x000E0100, 0xBA6993FC,0xBA6990FB, 0x8052BCA6)

Thinking that it would help, i restored my ipod to factory settings and cleared everything off of it. It didnt work so now i have a useless blank iPod.
I also tried to uninstall and reinstall my itunes but that didnt do anything.
I;m using Windows XP if that helps at all.
I'm not great with computer terminology so any responses dumbed down to lay terms would be greatly appreciated.

I would guess you should check whether the issue is with your computer's USB setup -- any trouble with other USB devices ?
