Hi all, I have an newish Acer Aspire ES1 model N15C4 which was running Windows 10 which has decided to show me this dreaded error.
Currently I can still use the laptop via a Ubuntu loaded USB stick in trial mode and while this kind of works I can't get any software to install properly, no problems downloading them however. It wont even install Ubuntu.
I have checked the 'disks' function in Ubuntu and it initially says everything is OK and then I do self test and the main partition scans and then just in bright red letters say self test failed and then the recovery partition gives this error....
Error mounting /dev/sdb4 at /media/ubuntu/Recovery: Command-line `mount -t "ntfs" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=999,gid=999" "/dev/sdb4" "/media/ubuntu/Recovery"' exited with non-zero exit status 14: The disk contains an unclean file system (0, 0).
Metadata kept in Windows cache, refused to mount.
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb4': Operation not permitted
The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown
Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume
read-only with the 'ro' mount option.

So basically I guess what I'm asking is should I accept that my HD is dead or are there any better methods of confirming or troubleshooting the problem before I decide to take it back or fix it?
Any help would be great.
