I have a Yamaha RX-V581 which sounds great, but I find that switching between NET radio stations is very clumsy and difficult. Am I missing something? There is nothing like a "channel" key on the remote for it, although they do have one for the preset stations of FM/AM tuner.
Have they ever watched a user try to do it from the remote?

Solution
I found the problem-- it seems that the DHCP setting on the Yamaha RX-V581 had been turned off somehow, which prevented it from connecting to the Internet (although it SAID it was connected... ). Once I turned it on, everything works. They do have some kind of a central Yamaha website for registering favorite stations, etc., but it's an option,, not a requirement. It worked before I registered.
Thanks for trying--

In order not to waste precious bandwidth, I try to research things a bit before asking the nice people on the Internet. This time I went as far as reading the manual you mention-- a highly unusual step for me. So I was familiar with the clumsy way that Yamaha expects people to switch between Internet radio channels. It is less clumsy if you use the phone app or hook up the receiver to a TV, but if you want to just listen to music and not bother with a video screen (the one in the receiver is woefully inadequate), this otherwise great receiver is disappointing.

Well, my problem with the RX-V581 is "sort of solved"-- Net radio has stopped working altogether.;-(( When I click on Net, I see "Please wait", but no matter how long I wait, nothing happens. This USED to work, but stopped working without me doing anything that I am aware of.
Can anyone help?
Thanks--

Missed your original post, but of course they didn't "usability-test" these things, they bothered to slap a fancy label "network radio" to entice to buy the stuff and they are done! :(

Now to your new problem, I hope this is not one of those gadgets that requires it to contact a master site in order to function, like some Internet-enable thermostats, because if that master site dies, or worse they go out of business, now you have a hunk of metal+plastic ornament.

First I make sure this box is on the LAN, to discount any "local" problems. Then, yes, am afraid, dig up the manual and find out if it requires a master site.

As I said above, the Net Radio used to work just fine for weeks before it failed. I tried to get Net Radio to work with a wired connection to the internet and with a WiFi connection, but neither works now. The manual says nothing about a master site, and instead says that "the service might stop working without notice". "Please Wait" suggests something else, otherwise I would imagine that the message should be: "Not available" or somesuch message, but it says Please Wait, and no matter how long I wait, nothing happens after that.
;-(((

Now that almost everything works on my Yamaha RX-V581 receiver, I have one remaining problem-- how do I edit the collection of pre-set stations? I accidentally stored one station twice, and now I cannot remove the errant station from the preset stations. Does anyone know how to do it?

After selecting a NETRADIO channel, hold down the Memory button on the remote for a few seconds. Then hit the memory button again to assign the station to an empty slot. Use the remote's preset buttons to switch between memorized stations.

I discovered this by experimenting - it would be nice if it were in the manual (I have the RX-V481)

To remove a Bookmarked station, select it in the bookmark folder, hit the Option button and select "Bookmark off"

Sadly, I am still failing to explain my problem. I KNOW how to store and remove stations from the Bookmarks folder.
I DO NOT know how to remove stations from the PRESET list of stations, ones that I had designated as PRESET. I accidentally stored the same station there several times, and I want to remove these duplicates from the PRESET list. An email to Yamaha went unanswered.

Sorry - I misunderstood.
I found your question in my search to figure out how to change stations using the remote (not with the TV menu and bookmarks). Now I know how.

The manual indicates how to clear presets for the TUNER but I don't see a way to clear presets for NETRADIO.

I suppose you could Restore the Default settings from the Advanced Setup Menu as a last resort.
That might work...
