Hi,

I am connecting a WD Media Player (http://www.wdc.com/wdproducts/library/UM/ENG/4779-705073.pdf) to an epson projector (Epson EH TW490 HD Video Projector). I'll be connecting the two devices via a HDMI cable. I want to use speakers for the sound, what do I connect the speakers to? The projector or the media player? And do I use a single audio jack to the red and white RCA cables? Or do I use the RCA cables on both ends?

I know this is quite simple, but for some reason it's impossible to find out online!

Cheers,

Claire

The best audio output is the optical audio port (#7 on page 7 of the link you provided). That would usually be connected to a surround sound receiver. That would then take the multi-channel audio and send it to the speakers. To use the composite jack (#4 same page) you would have to connect the red and white RCA jacks to an amplifier of some kind.

Thanks! What if I wanted to connect them to these; https://www.djkit.com/jbl/jbl-control-2p.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwucmoBRDmysGsgbDr5j0SJAAxL9abR18LroHJ5N0Uy5lJQ-jsrHlZCrpIdEt62B1TQWX3nRoCTFfw_wcB?

OK, since those are powered speakers, you would use the #4 connection (hope you still have the original break out cable). Connect the red and white RCA plugs.

Ah ok, so that would leave the yellow video cable hanging, is that ok? As an alternative, could I use something like this between the media player and speakers?

This would then also allow me to then have the speakers away from the projector.

Thanks

Since that single output has video and audio, I don't know if you can use an aftermarket cable. BUT once you use the included break-out cable (yes the yellow just stays disconnected) you could use longer RCA cables with a female to female union if required.
