What do I need to connect my PC to my HDTV to use the TV as a monitor

You need a cable from your graphics card to your TV. Depending on your TV and graphics card, it could be either VGA (15 pin D-SUB), DVI or HDMI. under the best circumstances, you'd match whatever output your graphics card has with whatever input your TV has.

Next, you'll need to enable the TV as a secondary monitor, in either "Clone Mode" (whatever you see on your monitor, you also see on your TV) or "Extended Mode" (your TV becomes an extension of your monitor) in your graphic card's control panel and adjust the resolution to the best possible for your TV while still getting an image.
