Hello everyone, this is my first post on the forum. My girlfriend wants a new laptop for work related purposes: reading pdfs, using office (excel and word mostly), occasionally SPSS, browsing the web, Netflix on the weekends and VERY LIGHT gaming (Age of Mythology and Titan Quest tops graphics wise). She has a budget of $350 and I've come down to this two options:

Asus Asus F555LA-AB31:

  • 2.1 GHz Intel Core i3-5010U
    4 GB DDR3 1600 MHz
    Intel HDGraphics 5500
    500GB HDD 5400 rpm

Dell Inspiron 15 i5555:

  • 2.2 GHz AMD A8-7410
    6GB DDR3L RAM 1600 MHz
    Radeon R5 Graphics
    500GB HDD 5400 rpm

Which of this two laptops will be better for her? Many thanks.

Solution
The laptop with the i3-5010u and the integrated Intel HD 5500 graphics core is better than the A8-7410 with the intrgrated Radeon R5 graphics core.

At best the A8-7410 might be equal to the i3-5010u in performance, but that is assuming all 4 cores are being used to accomplish the same task. That is very unlikely and most games especially those old games you listed do not use more than 2 cores. The Radeon R5 graphics core is less powerful than the Intel HD 4000 which means it is definitely less power than the Intel HD 5500 which is 2 generations ahead of the Intel HD 4000.
