I purchased a MSI GS43VR more than a half a year ago, and I'm struggling with a serious problem...
Recently my fans were losing speed when after few minutes opening almost any game I usually play, which were causing overheating problems (surpassing 90°C on both CPU/GPU) (the CPU fan was decreasing from 6700rpm to 5000rpm, while the GPU's was decreasing from 6000rpm to around 5000rpm as well). After closing these games, a minute later the fans were at their usual maximum speed again, and this was pissing me off. I tried downloading MSI Afterburner and many other third-party programs to manually control the fans speed (as MSI Dragon Dashboard program wasn’t helping with the issue, even after updating it)... in the end, I failed to find a solution for the problem.
Eventually, I ended up finding this video here (https
/youtu.be/xhsBK9Hgfc0), which suggests to update the BIOS in order to fix the fans problem… from their website I downloaded the zip file containing the BIOS and followed all the instructions said in the pdf file that came along (https/drive.google.com/file/d/0B-d_d_mf5PPxbWhmUzRGYkNOdFE/view?usp=drivesdk), as I successfully updated a notebook BIOS a long ago, I decided to do so with no fear of failing this time.
After following all these steps, I pressed any key to reset the computer. The problem is that my computer restarted instead of simply turning it off… and when it happened, I didn’t have any response from the system. It booted to a black screen, the fans were (still are) working at slow speed and the Fn + F6 function yet controls the keyboard backlighting. I just left my laptop like that for several minutes while I was trying to find a solution on my phone… when researching, some people were saying I probably bricked the BIOS.
In the other hand, it’s said in the pdf manual that I should reset the EC firmware to complete the BIOS update… but in order to do so, I should remove the battery for at least 5 minutes (https/forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller), and I'm not sure if the battery is permanently fixed on the motherboard because I must open the laptop to find out, and I really don’t want to open it because it has a warranty stick glued above a specific screw, which voids the warranty if tampered. I'm scared wondering that I really bricked the BIOS, and that I should request for their tech support to fix it (idk if MSI covers this kind of problem), but I don’t know if I just need to remove and put the battery back to solve the problem (and void my warranty for good). I already tried draining the battery through the 10s power button trick, but it seemed to not solve the problem.
Did anyone go through the same situation? I would like to see any suggestion from you guys…
