DVD writer is not working

I have a lenovo laptop with windows xp professional sp2 and Sony RW+-DW-D56A writer. I don't use my dvd writer regular. After the 3-4 months i have tried to play dvd in my drive. But my dvd drive doesn't read any CDs and DVDs. I have updated sony firmware, cleaned the lens and upgraded windows. But nothing new happened. My english is not good please understand my problem and give me a solution.

sounds like the laser is dead then. happens on laptops all the time and too expensive to replace usually.

Thanks for reply. But i can hear sound of laser. But this time sound is low.
