I am using the official Facebook Messenger application for Windows.

When the window is closed (but the app is still open) it's constantly trasnfering 42kb/s of data.
When the window is open, even though I am not using it it can go up to 15% cpu usage. Sometimes yes, sometimes not..

Anyone has an idea?

Thanks

on my smartphone, FB Messenger and Yahoo Messenger are incredible power hogs, so i'm not at all surprised it's the same on a desktop computer. it has to constantly send data back and forth, even as a keep-alive signal. plus, it's slowly stealing your full identity and selling it to North Korea, which takes time if it only does it a small piece at a time.

Messenger/FB app used to completely murder both my Galaxy S4 and iPhone 4.
