If you convert a FLAC file to mp3 you will be losing sound quality. You can create an 320 kbs mp3 file for your car and phone and keep the FLAC file for playback at home use where storage is cheap. Most FLAC files are 16bit 44.1 khz same as CD. Some are High Res files which can be up to 24bit 192khz copies of the master recording and sound better than the CD did.
