HDD not recognized

About a week ago my mac stopped recognizing my external HDD, doesnt even show up in disk utility.
It works perfectly on my windows PC. The HDD powers on and i can feel it soinning, but the computer just doesnt seem to recognize it. I have already tried with both USB ports.

How is the external drive formatted? Does it use the HFS+ Mac-specific file system? I'd suggest you check that in Disk Management in Windows. If you have any important data that you are able to access, you should definitely back it up somewhere else and then reformat the drive. Afterwards, you should attempt to get it recognized on the Mac again. If you have access to another Mac OS X computer, you should also plug the external drive there and see how it will get recognized.

Since it's spins up on the Mac, you should also open the System Profiler and check the "USB" listings if they show any indication of the external HDD's presence. I'd also advise you to connect another external device to those USB ports and check if it will get recognized properly. The source of the issue could be coming from them as well.
