HDMI connected monitor showing up as a headphone set?

I've been trying to set up a new laptop for work to connect with my monitor. It is a Dell XPS and doesn't have an HDMI port but I'm using a USB-HDMI adapter that connects to the monitor. The issue is the computer seems to think there is no monitor attached but instead there is a 2-C-Media USB Headphone Set installed. Any ideas?

Did you install the drivers for the adapter and reboot? Try a different port?
