HDMI cord wont work!

Hello,
My HDMI cable wont work with my acer laptop and my sharp tv. i just got it and i took it out of the packageing and plugged it in and it wont work, HELP!

Try another cable, one that is known to work.

And choose the HDMI channel on the TV ...some TVS have several...

it was on the hdmi channel, i was reserching it a litttle and i found that my laptop wont even recognize my hdmi cord,
