hitachi tv goes red then blue. Can't get tv on.

Please help! I'm a mother with 5 kids who desperately needs her tv to work. The light on the tv goes red, then blue. It alternates like this for some time.
Sometimes it comes on, others, it doesn't. Switching the power off doesn't help.

Yes, red usually means it is on standby and blue is active. An off switch or pulling the plug will usually remove any indication of power, because some of the energy is still on the electronics (capacitors, etc) and will take some time to discharge.

Obvious things first: check power cable, if its plugged in properly, etc. Is the unit brand new? Is it getting a signal from the cable/antenna/hdmi/aux?
