How To Connect PC to SmartTV with 7.2 Sound System

Okay... I'm somewhat of a "PC guy," but not a sound guy. I will be editing a movie and it will have 7.1 sound. The movie will be played on the PC. Will the PC connect to the Smart TV (via HDMI cable) and then the Smart TV will connect to the 7.2 surround system? Or is there another method of doing this? I will also have a 7.1 sound card in the PC.

The movie will be played through the PC because the PC is also controling a motion platform - which is synced with the movie. So I must either connect the sound to TV or to the surround system. And... I'm not sure how this is done in order to maintain the 7.1 sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. 😉

I would suggest you go PC - receiver - TV with HDMI.
That will maintain your mix better than going through the TV even if it passes surround sound.

I'm not sure if this will work... but logically it sounds correct. I will have a 7.1 soundcard on the computer. I will have a S/PDIF optical output which can plug in to the 7.2 Receiver. This should provide the 7.2 sound correctly.

I will have the DVI to HDMI out of the videocard direct to the TV - which should provide the picture.

Does this sound like it will work? Or am I missing something?

I can purchase a 4k graphics card with HDMI out and use that to go into the Receiver.

Which option would you recommend?
