How to get AVR to play 7.1 instead 5.1 from PC.

OK here we go. I have a ton of movies stored on my PC and can play via HDMI through my AVR to my projector. When I play my Bluray player and other devices I can get 7.1 through the AVR. BUT when I access my movies on my PC they will not play 7.1 instead 5.1. I have simultaneously through two different sources played the the same movie at the same time and get 7.1 using the BRay as the source. When I select PC input source it will only play it 5.1. I have verified my PC sound playback settings to play 7.1 but such is not the case. I'm perplexed.

You don't mention what kind of files or streaming source you use with the PC but they not be 7.1 encoded even though the Bluray disc of the same movie is 7.1. For the sake of smaller file size or more reliable streaming the movie may only be 5.1. If you had a BD drive on the PC to play the same disc that is a different issue.
