I have an HP notebook model 15-d020nr (not touchscreen) that won't boot. Initially and on rare occasions it gives a message something about cmos corrupt. I tried to update the bios with a usb, didn't work, nothing happened. I don't see a battery for the motherboard,
thought it might be dead. I tried a different hard drive, same result. It just comes on, hard drive spins but no activity. I thought I might have gotten a virus that corrupted the bios?
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Don

Solution
so probably out of warranty unless you bought the extended warranty. if no extended warranty then get a new laptop.
I had to order it, waiting for delivery.
That was a real bear getting to it. I had to completely remove the motherboard. It was on the other side and not accessible thru the bottom panel. I'll let you know if it works.

new cmos battery didn't help!
I may have a virus that corrupted the bios
and if this is true I may have to replace the bios chip?
Does this sound likely or does anyone have a better solution?
Maybe trash can?

It won't boot at all. It powers up and the hard drive spins and that's it.
At first I was getting an error message about the cmos, but not anymore.

no, just black screen. Hard drive spins but no activity.
I tried to reset, hold power button down until it stops.
I tried to flash the bios with a usb drive, hold down the win key
and b, but nothing happens.
