HP Pavilion dv6000 turns off within 1 second of powering on

Every time I press the power button, the whole laptop lights up (like it normally should) but shuts down just 1-2 seconds later. Not even long enough to hear the fan start up.

I tried performing a hard reset, but even this failed MULTIPLE times.

I'm beginning to have a sinking feeling that there's a problem with either the RAM or the motherboard, but I'd like to hear from any willing tech supporters here before drawing conclusions.

It's very likely the motherboard, did you try running with no battery or with a different power supply? If yes, motherboard is very likely the next thing to look at.
