Hi,
I've been looking at phones and found that the HTC 8X is very similar to the Nokia Lumia 920, only considerably cheaper. I was going to buy the 8X until I heard that many people have had issues with discolouration and peeling with the blue, red and green versions (though I'm not sure about the black version) and some people reported creaking and gaps in-between the screen and side either from new or after a few weeks of use.
I was also looking at other Lumia phones, but the 820 and 720 are both more expensive, less powerful and have worse screens compared to the 8X (with the 820 costing less than the 720, both sold and dispatched from Amazon for some reason). I've also read that the 720 is poorer value compared to the 620.
Then I was considering the 620 and 520; I found that the 520's screen was very dark and the 620 looks rather bulky with a smaller screen, plus they are obviously less powerful.
I looked at the Samsung ATIV S, but found nothing special about it compared with the other phones - it's similar to the 8X and 920 but the same price as the 920.
I also looked at the HTC 8S and found it to have the same CPU, RAM, screen size, resolution and PPI as the 520, but half the ram and £50 more making it a poorer choice.
I dislike the fact that the 8X doesn't have an SD card slot or removeable battery and back cover, whereas the Lumia phones have all those features, so if the back cover becomes damaged I could just buy another back cover, or even change colour if I wanted. Plus I'm not sure if 16GB would be enough, but I might risk it.
So now I'm really not sure which phone to buy. Below are the cheapest prices I've found for each phone - I should also mention that the 920 is too expensive for me with the 720's price pushing it a bit too far.
HTC 8X: £190
Lumia 920: £270
Lumia 820: £200
Lumia 720: £225
Lumia 620: £145
Lumia 520: £100
I did see the Google Nexus 4 16GB for £200 which is similar to the 8X, 920 and ATIV S, but I wanted Windows Phone 8.
Not to say that these are bad phones, some are good value for what they are.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks.
