I have a Panasonic home theater sa-pt673 and a Panasonic 50 inch TV. Surround sound will work when playing DVD but won't work

My panasonic surround sound sa-pt673 won't work with panasonic 50 inch TV But will work with DVD. Any ideas

The only input on the SA-PT673 is an optical audio input. Does your Panasonic have an optical audio output ?

The PROBLEM is that the speakers are connected to the DVD player unit so if that's not used you have no speakers.

If you used a different TV box then it sends a video/audio signal up the HDMI input to the TV but there's no path into the DVD unit and thus the speakers.

*The MANUAL describes how to input the video of one other media device into your DVD unit. Once that's setup both devices have to be powered on for this to work.
