Just bought a new Sharp LC-60C6500U 60" LED Full HD Smart TV from ebay.
Well I took it out of the box, hooked it up, and was confused by how the black screen looked. I wrote it off as it was just "warming up". But after a while, during some dark scenes, it looked odd.
So I googled "Black wallpaper" on with the browser on the TV, made it fullscreen....and, well...I don't know what the hell I am looking at?!
This IS a Jet black "00000" image...
Is it just a settings issue or does this need to be shipped back ASAP?

~edit~ Changing the brightness or LED backlight does little to help....

Solution
A lot of TVs have a feature called local dimming that allows them to darken one part of the screen if it's much darker than another. It used to be used only on "full array" tvs, which could divide up the screen into many zones (32 or more). But then they started using it on edge-lit tvs (like yours), which can only divide the screen up into 4 or 5 zones, and only horizontally.

The thing is, if even one pixel in that zone is bright, it causes the entire zone to brighten.

My guess is that it's light on the right side because of the white bar, and on the left due to a stray pixel
(maybe the mouse pointer.)

This is probably a good ol' case of poor screen uniformity. If you can, I'd recommend returning it, as that won't really go away (you might get used to it after a while...). But that's only if you can.

EDIT - Oh wait, didn't see the second pic, different colours at different places

What you said makes complete sense.
However, I had a Vizio Razor edge-lit tv before this one and it never had this sort of occurance. And in case you say that they are different brands and models...My old roommate had this exact model too. It's actually because of how great his tv looked why I sold my Vizio and bought this one. Ha haha
Also, if it's adjusting the backlighting like you said, then why is it also doing it to the very top and the left side? The only lighter pixels are on the bottom and right side. Also, it does this as soon as you turn it on, same places.
And lastly, on the second picture, you can almost see the individual LED modules when looking at the top of the TV...
