Laptop_Nerd, that is a Canadian laptop & amazon.com won't ship that to Canada as I ran into that problem on this past Saturday with a customer's laptop that needed a new keyboard because of spilt water. bought 1 off ebay.com as ebay.ca didn't list it for some reason.
Bronwynkf19, check in device manager to see if keyboard is enabled or not & for any exclamation marks or unknown devices.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help in solving the issue.
- First is to connect an external USB keyboard and see if it will work or not.
- If the external USB keyboard will work that could mean that the built in keyboard is faulty already.
- Try to uninstall/reinstall the keyboard driver.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall the keyboard driver.
- Once uninstalled reboot your laptop and it should reinstall the driver automatically.
- After the reboot do test it again and see if the same problem will persist or not.
- If it will not work your last option would be to reinstall Windows.
- If reinstalling Windows will not work that confirms it that the built in keyboard needs to be replaced.
