I have an ASUS laptop that is barely hitting it's second year of use. i just purchased a lot of 1080p movies, and when I try playing them I am receiving a lot of long pauses and lag throughout the movie. Can anyone tell me what the problem is and how to fix it?

Theses are my specs:
Processor: i5-4210U CPU @ 1.70GhZ 2.40GHz
RAM: 8.00GB
System type: 64-bit
Graphics: NVIDIA GeFroce 840M (and Intel (R) HD graphics family)

@NerdyComputerGuy: There is no circle turning or anything else turning, just the movie stops for a second then resumes playing.

@1shado1: They are on my hard drive

Could be some issues with the drive reading the film, do you have the same issue when viewing videos on YouTube for example? Or is it isolated to the films locally on your hard drive?

Try and play a 1080P video through YouTube or some other video service and see if you have the same issues. Post back results here.

Many thanks,

@NerdyComputerGuy I normally don't have any problems streaming videos on Youtube at 1080p unless its a problem with my connection. I just finished watching a lot of videos in 1080p and seen no lag, or disruptions in the video quality, sound, etc.

I've recently noticed that I am having problems with my file explorer. It goes unresponsive if I rename or move a file to another location, or whenever I am trying to launch something from the file explorer
i.e. > Downloaded Games (folder)
> Transformice
> Fall out 4
> etc.,
and when I double-click a game it launches, but the folder "My Games" goes unresponsive. I don't know if that's useful or not

You've most likely got a faulty / failing hard drive then!

Try and run a disk scan. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Everything came back normal, and I was asking a buddy of mine and he had me download something called CCCP and it runs smoothly now. I guess it's Windows default movie player that's the problem??
