laptop fan not working

i have an HP dv6z-2000 that I purchases a few years ago. I noticed last week that my laptop overheated and shut off after only about 15 minutes of streaming videos. It then occurred to me that I could no longer hear the internal fan running at all. Are there any easy fixes to this that I should try before going out and having a new fan installed.

dust it off with a can of compressed air it is glogged with dust .
