Laptop for heavy internet browsing? Up to 500-600$

I'm looking for a laptop primarily for writing research papers. I frequently have 15-20+ tabs open and would tab back and forth pretty quickly looking at different content and writing, any noticeable amount of lag adds a lot of delay since I switch so often. I know internet browsing isn't a lot to ask, but I didn't want to lowball the price and regret my choice. I tend to work in Google docs for the cloud features, so having word isn't a huge issue. I was considering a chrome book to save on price while still getting performance? Battery life is not important to me at all, just performance (a nice screen wouldn't hurt though). I've got the budget to spend $500-600 dollars if needed, but If I can go cheaper without sacrificing anything I'd rather. Thanks for any suggestions!

*I do have Windows on a different computer for any programs or software that may need it, if I go the chrome book route.
