Laptop mircophone problems

I am having programs with the mircophone that is built into my Laptop. It appears that the mircophone is not recording as it should.
I have reinstalled all the drivers for the mircophone, chipset and motherboard. But that has not solved the problem.
Any suggestion about what can be done to determine if this is a hardware problem?
Or to solve the problem.

Hi Brett,

This is a Toshiba S205 Series Laptop. When attempting to use the microphone for testing both in Skype and tool testing I get no sound feedback. The system check indicate that the microphone hardware is working properly. I have reinstalled all of the audio drivers, still no sound feedback.

Does this help you to understand the situation that I am facing. The speakers are functioning well.
